Presidents’ Day

Today in the United States we celebrate Presidents’ Day. Presidents’ Day is often seen as one of those obscure holidays that many people know as just another day when their kids are out of school, retailers offer some great deals, and they can’t go to the bank. However, it is popularly recognized as the day we honor George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, since their birthdays are both in February (Feb 22 and 12, respectively). The day is sometimes understood as a celebration of the birthdays and lives of all U.S. presidents.

We thought we would take a

1/14/13 Prayer

This weekend members of our team had the privilege of sitting with staff from two of the organizations globalX works with.

One of our visitors, Florence Muindi, is the founding president and CEO of Life in Abundance, an organization working toward holistic community development in eight countries around the world, including Ethiopia and Jamaica, two locations where we will be partnering with them.
Check out what they are doing at http://liaint.org.

We, along with Florence, spent time with James and Jennifer Ward of The 410 Bridge. Partnering with them for several years now, we have sent hundreds of people

Wanna Know What a Trip is Like?

Check out this video created by team members who recently got back from serving in Bohoc, Haiti. globalX partners with The 410 Bridge in this location, and we focus on community development throughout the year. This particular trip also focused on serving children in the community by creating a children’s camp. Watch the video to get just a glimpse of what a trip looks like.

College students heading to Haiti

On March 16, a group of college students, most attending Georgia Tech (Go Jackets!), will step onto a plane and head to Haiti, to the small, rural community of Bohoc. First named Beau Roc (French for beautiful rock) because of a large cave and rock formation, Bohoc is comprised mainly of farmers. With less than 20% of the population having a consistent income, the challenges in this community are great.

Schools exist but the quality of education is low. Churches exist but the pull to voodoo worship is strong. An underperforming clinic makes it hard to treat the medical needs

We Experienced Haiti and Now We’re Changed

No one that went on one of our six Haiti trips can say they have not changed as a result of their trip. Even those that have been on mission trips before had not necessarily seen the devastation to the extent that they did in Haiti. The first trip we sent to Haiti left in early May, four months after the earthquake. That team, and all the teams thereafter, came back saying it looked like the earthquake had happened the day before. If not for the rubble pushed to the sides of the now one lane roads and the attempt

Haiti Mission Trip: June 18-24, 2010

Our fourth Haiti trip team returned the last week of June, and it included a good friend of mine on his first globalX trip. I asked him to share about his experiences. Check them out below and experience Haiti with him. Thanks Walter for sharing so well some of the cool stuff that happened with your team and the people of Haiti. And thanks for being open to this opportunity to GO when it presented itself just a few short months ago.

This was my first mission trip, and I was blessed to be part of a team that had

Experiencing Haiti

As our fourth team prepares to leave tomorrow for Haiti, I wanted to share a post from a recent trip member (Jenny Bertotti). I hope it inspires you to pray for the teams that are still going, as well as for the people of Haiti.

Our mission trip to Haiti proved to be an incredible experience. It was a challenging trip where God completely reminded us of His sovereignty and love for all of His children even in the midst of unimaginable circumstances. Throughout the trip, it became more and more difficult to see some kind of reasoning as to

Haiti Update

Back in March we scheduled five trips to Haiti and filled them in two weeks because of your amazing response! We even have a waiting list if people can’t go for some reason. Thanks for your willingness to provide relief in even a small way to the Haitian people. We wanted to give you an update from our first trip (they returned May 18) and ask you to pray for them as they are now home and have to process their experience. And pray for the teams that will follow in their footsteps over the next two months. The update

Haiti

Check out the blog later this week for a guest post from someone who just went to Haiti on one of the relief trips. My husband is currently there with the second North Point team. Can you imagine it to be normal to take one and a half hours to go 12 miles? That’s what it’s like there. And that’s what they have to travel every day to get to and from their hotel to the construction site that they are working at. Philip called last night and filled me in on the church service they went to (two hours
